A Walking Tour of the Studio.

No, not my studio. William Kentridge's.
We went to this lecture last week ...

where the artist spoke (most eloquently, as always) about his work and his process.

Phrases that stuck with me: "stalking the image ..."  "behind every certainty there is a violence ..." and strangely enough, "carrots, cumin and brisket", the last one being ingredients for a dish that he was going to cook, and which popped up in his mind, very unZenlike, while he was doing a 5-minute meditation on a tree in his garden.

At the event I got hold of this publication (L'Usband's early Christmas present to me, yippeeee):

which contains the text of his 6-part lecture series at Harvard University (videos can be found here)

He very kindly signed my copy ...
but I thought it wise to obliterate his signature in the photo, for obvious reasons.

A Day Measured in Objects.

Another zine. At 15 random times during the day I decided to note the time and the object I was working with at that time. Quite an interesting exercise. I then made drawings (black pen) and photocopied them onto coloured paper to make the zine. It has a 5-hole sewn binding.

Other objects were: a toothbrush, a reel of cotton, a plug, and ear bud, a wine glass, a pill holder, a stapler, a pair of glasses, an apple, and a pair of scissors.

Live Art Festival 2014

A few photographs of some of the events at this year's Live Art Festival. (Cellphone pictures though, and taken at night ...)
Some performances were provocative, some thought-provoking, some controversial, some beautiful, some powerful, some amazing, some fun, some scary, some plain weird. But there was not a single one I would not have wanted to see.

In the printing studio.

Positioning the inked-up plate on the press. The plate is part of my Marikana series, about the shootings at the Lonmin mine at Marikana on 16 August 2012. Lots of work still to be done on each plate.

Mixed media paintings.

A project I started with ages ago morphed into four mixed media paintings. Actually, two paintings, but each can be turned around to reveal another work at the back. It is part of the series called Matters of the Heart, which includes two etchings and a zine.
