In Reverse.

Despite piles and piles of proofreading to do, I decided to take a day off, and attended a workshop on reverse painting by artist Paul Birchall. What fun I had! And much cheaper than therapy.

First we practised on pieces of shiny plastic.

In the second one I accidentally started painting on the wrong side (the shiny side), so that the matt side ended up being on top, but it still looks pretty cool. Unfortunately I can't claim the man with the fish as my own design; I used a painting by Jan Vermeiren as inspiration.

In the afternoon we worked on a bigger piece on perspex. I added texture by using a comb to scrape through the paint, and using a paper towel on the dress. You can't really see it on my photograph though.

Woman with Bird (acrylic and permanent marker on perspex).

PS Any advice for sore and watery eyes? I average about 8-9 hours of proofreading a day. This obviously does not include the breaks I take to make tea, rest my eyes, etc. The pages are extremely dense, and some are printed in what looks like 8 or 9 point text. I hope I haven't permanently damaged my eyes! Still a few hundred pages to go ...

Three pieces in one day, how much fun you must have had! Great!

Next time you MUST say that they can't send you a text in small points like that! I don't know what you are proofreading, but make sure there's an agreement about "readability". For your eyes and your health's sake!

Your art always ALWAYS inspires me! Your art work, I mean...not the proofreading which inspires me naught!I admire your eyesight! I can not even see with my new and improved glasses! When I felt my eys go into a catatonic state for about an hour before I can see again. sometimes driving home from the studio is a challenge because everything is triple vision.
Loving the reverse painting on plastic- so clever! I am felting a big fish on a wall hanging- one I saw in the tropics but more cartoony.
Dexter sends sniffs and wags- he is loving his portrait- it is where he can see it and show his friends. About hip level beneath a bird painting, for now. I am going to have it framed properly one of these days.
At the moment I am working on a rather ambitious piece for my niece, who is losing her Dad. Cancer is such an ugly bitch!

You have such a fun and energetic style. I love seeing your latest creations. So much more inviting that a heap of proofreading. Too bad art doesn't pay the bills for most of us like boring work does.

This is horrible. I am worried about you and your poor eyes.
I am happy that you are taking care of your heart and spirit though - major inspiration to see you always make time for your art and passions! Beautiful work.

Beautiful woman with bird. You inspire as always. As for your eyes I think rest is the only answer. Not a very helpful one though!

I love your paintings!! Other than rest, the only thing I can suggest for your eyes is drops - perhaps your optician or doctor could reccomend some.

Oh I do so hope the end is in sight now (however blurred)! Only thing I can think of are the saline solution drops that they recommend for contact lens wearers - they do soothe although they probably don't do much to ease the actual strain. Rest is the only thing that will do that - vasbyt!

I LOVE your woman with bird! I'd like to eavesdrop on their conversation and find out what wisdom they are sharing...
