10 Simple Things

L'atelier tagged me to post 10 simple things that make me happy. Easy peasy!
  1. Snous waking me up in the morning - she comes into the room, puts her front legs on the bed and licks my arm. Or when she is feeling exuberant she runs in and bounces on the bed.
  2. L'Usband. Not that I am suggesting that he is a simple thing, but he does make me happy!
  3. Sitting on our patio, under our umbrella, looking at the sea.
  4. Making my first cup of coffee in the morning, while reading the headlines over L'Usband's shoulder, then sipping it slowly ...
  5. Lying on the sofa, cushion under my head, reading a book.
  6. Catching up on people's blogs.
  7. Seeing beautiful handmade stuff - often on people's blogs.
  8. Making stuff. Even when it comes out crooked and skew.
  9. Getting a letter in the post. A good kind of letter, obviously.
  10. Watching a movie (on DVD usually), especially when eating my supper. I know it is bad, but I am addicted!
  11. Finding a new word. Oh, I forget most of them as soon as I hear them, but I do so love a good word. Found this one today (on Michael Quinion) - galanthophile - a collector or lover of snowdrops!
  12. Car boot sales.
Oh, wait, I have to stop ...

Oh! Oh! Oh!

Oh, look here everybody! Esti of Pintame el Dia has turned me into the most beautiful ghost-creature - emerging from lacey strands of mist ... I think of myself as a Venetian ghost ... masked, with a collar of lace ... unknowable ... silent ... secret ...

What Snous Found #2

Yesterday, on Red Hill.
I hope your weekend is full of good finds!

Not the Last Supper.

Art journal page - collage with paint, felt tip pens, pen sketches and photo (of my brother, who does look rather Jesus-like, don't you think?) Original painting of table is by Louis Jansen van Vuuren - I have drawn over it and added the figures.)
PS A dream of mine is to do an art course with him at Le Creuzette in France.

This weekend I crocheted a blanket for a special person. Grey wool with an edging in cream cotton.

I think she likes it ...

BC #11 of a painting by Genevieve Rosochacki, April 1997.
(Colouring pencils and pen.)

Have a fruity and fruitful weekend, everyone!

Red Cross.

BC #10 of a painting by Nicholas Hales, October 1999.

(Collage with magazine cutout, paint, pen drawing, potato print and beaded AIDS ribbon.)
Note: The Red Cross Children's Hospital lies below Table Mountain.

This is what I did this weekend - made a cushion cover from cotton off-cuts and doilies salvaged from the car boot sale. (I also ate a huge and sumptuous Valentine's breakfast cooked by L'Usband.)
What did you do?

Car boot sale revenge.

In my life the monthly local car boot sale is a high point - something I look forward to with the happy anticipation of a 4-year-old the week before Xmas. Kinda sad, really.
As building construction is heavily (and unhealthily) on my mind these days, the first thing I saw (and bought) was this miniature set of construction vehicles:

I am going to build a tiny house. And then I am going to stomp on it.
Kinda sad, really.

I've always wanted to write beautifully. But even when I try it turns into an illegible scrawl.
Art journal page with collaged note (on Gnosticism - I think) which I wrote in 2006.

Decluttering - A Lesson.

Remember this? For years I kept them, waiting for the right project. But the right project didn't appear. And so, in a bold and brave move, I got rid of them. A few hours after I did, Freshly Found alerted me to this link. So I slowly started collecting again, until I could make this ...

(which hangs on my studio wall). And now I want my big bag full of tp inners back! I want to make a huge screen for my kitchen window which is now looking out on the brick wall of the neighbour's house instead of the beautiful sea.

Oh, somewhere there is a lesson to be learnt. I am just not sure what it is ...

Think ... Understand ... The Other

I made this series of three ACEOs (front and back) for a project that Linda Sue is working on ...
