A Cake

My baking skills are limited to xmas spice biscuits, vanilla biscuits and pasteis de nata, and a chocolate cake which I make about once in five years. Yesterday I had this insane desire to bake a cake for lunch - a new unchocolatey cake - and I found a recipe for a grape harvest cake in a newspaper. It was pretty good (although next time I'll tweak the recipe slightly). Actually, it looked so good that I immediately took a pic - I couldn't wait to tell you about it.

Then, this morning, I saw a reference to a book about blogging called "No one wants to know what you had for lunch". Well, really. What a blow. (I decided to tell you anyway.) And just so you know, I disagree. But totally. I, for one, would LOVE to know what you had for lunch.

:D That cake looks scrummy and I agree wholeheartedly - I LOVE knowing what you had for lunch. I had a bowl of Thai chicken coconut soup and a toasted bagel... I didn't make either but they were delicious!

I totally disagree with the book. I am fascinated by what people, in other parts of the world who live different lives than I do and think different thoughts than I think, had for lunch. My lunch? Coffee and peanut butter on toast.

Hi!
Why don't they? Who are they? I do and so do you and all your lovely commenters. Andy always comes home and tells me what he had for lunch. Today I had delicious left over chicken pie, followed by grapes. And snap!-I have just done a post about a cake I made tonight! Like you I don't often bake but do enjoy it. I wanted to try a cake in the lovely new oven and it was so great!
Your cake looks delicious-I have never seen a cake with grapes embedded in the top before-an interesting twist on using raisins.
Sarah :)

aimee - Oh, lovely - breakfast for lunch! And a chocolate cookie - well, a chocolate cookie just perfectly complements every meal!

kendalee - Thai chicken coconut soup sounds divine. Interestingly enough - I made soup for us for supper last night It was leftovers of a vegetable curry (again!) to which I added two potatoes and some veggie stock before blending to perfection. And then I added coconut milk - coconut milk is one of the staples I keep in my grocery cupboard - great for curries, stews, soups and custards!

la belette rouge - Peanut butter! Oh, I love peanut butter. Actually, I've had to stop buying it because I eat it with a spoon out of the jar - especially around midnight when I am wide awake and the grocery cupboard and fridge yield nothing else ...

sarah - Chicken pie! Oh, I do miss chicken pie. About a year ago I turned semi-vegetarian (semi, because sometimes I yield to temptation when I'm out for breakfast, I have to confess). A friend was so bold as to call me a Fake Vegetarian, but really, I much prefer to call myself a semi-vegetarian. But I DO miss chicken pie! PS The grapes are actually inside the cake - in the batter - and the ones on top are just decorative - I soaked them in some sherry first ...

linda sue - I must say that the cake disappeared pretty fast - my youngest son was here for lunch, so we had a helping each, then I gave him a big slice to take home, and Le'Usband and I had seconds for our supper on Sunday evening, and the last slice was gobbled up by my eldest son when he popped in on Monday. But actually, I could have eaten the whole thing myself. PS I love private rebellions - I also usually change recipes - this one asked for amaretto which I didn't have, so I used sherry instead, and I used a little more butter and a little less sugar than was specified. Why should one follow instructions, I would like to know? Let's say Ha!! to them - those authors of instructions ...

anonyMouse - Oh, poor, poor thing! A single rice cake?! That is too sad for words. Life is there to be enjoyed dear Mrs Mouse! Even if you are in the midst of a mathematical whirlwind, you should always take time to enjoy good food. And rice cakes are not good food. Dear lumpy lord, no!! (see comments on previous post for an explanation) Rice cakes are not even food! I hope Other Mrs anonyMouse will soon be back to lead you into temptation ...

Esti - oh, good! That is what I so like about the Blogworld I inhabit - to find out little bits about people. And eating is such an important part of one's life. Grilled chicken sounds fantastic - and with hazelnuts - divine! There definitely seems to be a chickeny flavour to the comments - thai chicken soup, chicken pie, grilled chicken ... aaaah .... chicken, I miss thee sooooooooo much!
