Weaving the Story.

A friend and I decided to continue our Art MOOC happiness and to set ourselves new projects every couple of months. The first project was to start with a found object, to use the concept of weaving, and to use more than two different techniques in making the object.

I decided to weave a story and make a book. I have been somewhat obsessed with making books recently. I started with an old cotton sheet that I found at the car boot sale. I ripped it into strips, and wrote a story onto the strips. I then wove the strips to form two double pages to construct a book. The rest of the book is made up of drawing, painting, collage, transfer on fabric (with packaging tape), hand and machine stitching.

It is not important to know the story, but it is a happy one, with a good ending. You can weave your own story by looking at the illustrations.

Wow! I love the way the pictures show through the gauzey fabric and the threads cover and pick out parts of them too. And the idea of weaving a story using thread and fabric. Just brilliant!

Oh, and , by the way, someone new came into my studio the other evening and the only positive comment received was regarding the little paper birds that flew all 14 inches from SA. She was intrigued and kept touching them gently and sighing approval...nothing else held her attention quite like the little birds. They are still very happy hanging in the entryway. The Dexter embroidery is still very happy - nose level. Dexter shows everyone and puffs up feeling very important! Wags and sniffs to Snous.

So unique and different! A great deal of time and hard work there as well. Some day you'll have to let us in on the story. If it's anything like the book it must be a very good one.
