21 days ...

Dear friends, thank you so much for your kind words and commiserations - I appreciate it!

Yesterday ...
1. ... I took my laptop in for an autopsy. (I was hoping for a miraculous resurrection right there on the spot but alas, that only seems to happen in the Bible and other such documents.) Three weeks they say, three weeks before they can tell me anything about it! It is under guarantee which seems to be a problem - it now has to go back to the original suppliers.

2. ... I went to look at new laptops. The range of choices is confusing to say the least. I have not looked at laptops for ages, but I was confronted by prices ranging from R6000 to R30000. And all these new versions of Vista. What is with that? I was happily tootling along on XP when my computer gave up the ghost, so the fact that Vista comes in a variety of versions was a bit of a shock to me. Can any one advise?

3. ... I went to see Changeling. What can I say? After Eastwood's Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima this was a huge disappointment. Also, I have never thought Angelina Jolie is a good actress, and my opinion has not changed.

So, 21 days of irregular posting and very little blog reading ... But, as a friend who came to visit me said, maybe not such a bad thing. In his words, "there are shells to be collected and roses to be smelt ... "

So true-get off your computer chair and out into the fresh air!
All I know about Vista is that nobody likes it! I have it and I don't like it-or at least it does not like me. I don't know about different versions though sorry.
I hope things get sorted out-you never know-there might be some form of computer miracle.

At least if it's still under guarantee, they have to fix it for you. Or give you a new one. I've never used Vista although, like Sarah, I've not heard great things about it. But then a lot of that seems to do with it being more like the mac interface and I love that! Takes a bit of getting used to but for those of us who remember a move from DOS to Windows 3.1, what's a little adjustment like that? ;) Fingers and toes crossed for a speedy resolution if not resurrection. Enjoy those roses and the beach!!!

Our computer has just recovered from a dreadful virus.  Horrible to be without.  Hope yours recovers soon.

my fix for broken electronics is to unplug, shake it a bit, and plug it back in. believe it or not, this works about 50% of the time. it just needs a little reminder to keep working. have you tried this?

My quick fix for anything electronic is a hammer- it seldom works but is so satisfying. It is no longer an all- or- nothing world, you can smell the roses..take a picture and download it on your blog- brilliant! Gather shells and sniff the salt air, take a picture and download it to your blog... amazing. I had no idea how rich and rewarding blogworld is when I started scooting around in it. Obsessed intitially, whittled it down to a few now - you and Kendalee being at the top.I still have time to smell the dog , wash him go outside to play and make things- just that now I take photos and download them...Good luck finding the perfect computer. I have a PC that my husband built- I have no understanding of it so when it stops I am sunk...I am in your shoes.

I do not like it when this happens? My last top lasts only for two years and died. I switched to Macbook. No PCs.Hopefully you are under guarantee and it would be fixed properly.
Nice short break from blogging but always keep in touch.

Holding thumbs that it will be quicker than 3 weeks! They should give you a 'courtesy laptop' to use in the meantime ;)

I hope things will be sorted out soon for you and your laptop. All I hear about Vista is that nobody likes it and that Microsoft is running fast to get a new different program and leave Vista behind, or so I've been told.
Well, you deserve a computer miracle!!
