Red Leaves and Black Spots

The leaves of my star jasmine are starting to change colour - autumn is upon us ...

In the meantime I have been busy with my list of fabric projects. Yes, it sometimes takes me a month or two (or in some cases a year or five) but eventually I get to all the items on my various lists. Well, most of them, anyway ...

This is the result of my yo-yo cushion cover. Having miscalculated the amount of fabric needed to make enough yo-yos to cover a floor cushion, I had to adapt the original idea, so I just stitched them onto the existing cream-coloured cover.
Have a great weekend, dears! I will be sitting on my black-spotted cushion drinking a glass of Haut Espoir chardonnay, learning how to change the course of history ...

Oh my lumpy lord! That cushion is so fabulous, and the black and white prevents it being all homemade kitschy-poops. Which is good.

WELCOME HOME, BLOGSISTER!

P.S. White pens are the future.

The cushion looks good and comfortable! Your activities over the weekend sound important and frivolous. Great combinations of states and qualities! Have fun!
The word verification is 'heart'-it must mean something good!

AUTUMN! Already! My timing is so bad- I followed winter around the globe- a two year trip...silly me- at least I only had to take one seasons worth of clothing, except for Singapore which was like a sauna even in winter!
LOVE your cushion- Good idea to place the yo yo's so artistically- they look velvety.
I went to the library today and thought of you- all those words and punctuations PLUS a very large giraff on the lawn- I will post him for you tomorrow.
Cheers!

Hope you had a great weekend lounging on your lovely cushions! I'm impressed as always with your creativity and love how this has turned out. The yo-yo thingies remind me of sea anemones when they've pulled in their tentacles. Gorgeous!

aimee - Unfortunately I am not a very wise person! I am trying to cultivate wisdom as I grow older, but I don't think it has kicked in yet ...

heather - I just love your expressions. Let it be known that you have now started a craze in this household(soon to spread throughout CT, then SA, then Africa, then .... who knows?) to exclaim: oh my lumpy lord!!

sarah - it is quite a comfy cushy - of course, one has to get used to the lumpy black dots first - but they are soft lumpy black dots, so that is okay

Linda Sue - A giraffe! Yay - I am going to look at it now. (I am SO behind in blogging - at the moment I am very busy testing software for an online shopping system - not by buying stuff unfortunately. Testing software is really just another version of proofreading - finding bugs - but is way more pleasurable ... also, a little more brain power is involved!

kendalee - They do look a little like sea anemones - velvety black ones!

jesse - so glad you like it!

i am going mad with love for that cushion! black, white, fabric, the shmooshiness of these things you call yo-yos... i HAVE to know more. please, is there a link somewhere about how you made them???

freshly found - I am sure yours will be delightful, should you ever make something like this. I am quite pleased with it, although minimum planning went into it which is why it morphed into something other than the original idea. I wish I could plan better, in my work life I am actually very good at planning, but it seems my creative side rebels against the Planning Principle!

heather - Oh my lumpy lord - it's you again!!

editor - No link I'm afraid, but I'm sure you would find something if you google. I used to call them Round Thingies until Linda Sue told me they were called yo-yos. They are unfortunately quite wasteful of fabric - with that I mean that you use way more fabric than the actual area you want to cover. Which is why I ran out of fabric. The principle is quite simple - you cut out a circle of fabric (I used a bread plate as template), then you hem it all the way round (by hand) with strong yarn and at the end of the hemming you do not finish it off, but you pull the yarn so that the circle forms a little ball and then you kind of pat it flat to make a flat, small lumpy circle. Then you finish off firmly so that the whole thing doesn't unravel. Make a lot of those and eventually you can sew them all together (catch them on four sides of the circle)to make a cover (which was my initial plan). I have seen beautiful ones made from different fabrics to make a type of quilt. I used a black cotton jersey fabric for mine (my Scrappy Necklace was made from the off-cuts!). I am actually quite pleased with it (the cushion, not the Scrappy Necklace - that I dumped after one wear - one of my friends laughed! Anguish to my soul! So I'm afraid it had to go. I'm kind of thinking if I didn't tell her I had made it myself but that I had bought it from some larney boutique she probably would not have laughed ....)

OMGD. OMGD OMGD OMGD. okay, i googled and found and am absolutely determined. why, when i have 3 long-overdue projects lined up, i find a fourth that takes priority???
and all while i'm not feeling well.
these are so fantastic it's sick (as am i). this was the right place to respond - when i leave a question, i revisit, and it's better for your readers, if any had the same question.
as for your necklace, i am very sorry you do not live a little closer, or else i would have convinced you to mail it to me.
how many yo-yos did you make for what size project (the size of your cushion i mean) and using what size fabric to start the yo-yos?
i found a terrific link by the way:

Oh my goodness - I feel quite overwhelmed! Of course you can use it! About the questions above - unfortunately, with the No Planning Principle, I have no idea how much fabric I used. I already had a large piece of fabric and I used that until it was finished. My cushion cover is about 80 cm X 80 cm, and the diameter of each cut-out circle of fabric was 19 cm. The diameter of each resulting yo-yo is about 9cm. I ended up making 56 yo-yos. Hope that helps. (Oh, and thanks for the link!)

56 yo-yos... that is amazing!!!!!!
i applaud you!
