Why should this exist?

I have just been reading the March 11 entry of Keri Smith's blog. (Somehow I can't link to the actual post, but it is called: "in which she unleashes it all, thoughts on creation, life, ads, things not making sense, grumpy feels and a whole mess of stuff" . It is food for thought ...)

"Why should this exist?"

This question has added another dimension to my reflections on my own creative journey. Is "wanting to" or "expression of myself" a good enough reason for bringing something new into the world? Should there even be a reason? What gives value to the thing? Is the making of it enough? Does it need to be seen by someone else to have value? Does it need to have a monetary value put on it, i.e. be for sale, to be taken seriously? Why am I using the term "be taken seriously"? That implies that I need others to approve or value what I do. Is this important to me? And if so, why?

I really do not have any answers at the moment ...

Laptop update - I phoned today - "Oh," she said, "21 working days, then only can we tell you what is happening ... "

Personally, I don't think it has to have a meaning or a reason, as long as you are enjoying it, and it is fulfilling an inner purpose that gives you meaning....if you know what I mean:)

Bronwyn! You are back - I thought you had disappeared permanently from blogworld! What wonderful news!! Thanks for your thoughts on the subject - I am wondering why it is that we all need things to mean something and to have a purpose? (It links to The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins which I am reading at the moment - he has some interesting ideas on the evolutionary roots for such a 'meaning-creation' module in our brains.)

Everything has a reason to exist even if it is just a thing!!

And all these things exist as a consequence of our activities, other living creatures activities, or by nature activity (rain, wind, snow, etc...)

As human beings we think that the more things we have the more easier our lives would be. I disagree!! It is just our habits of making things to interpret to us the other things!

making things out of stuff is just rearanging- I LOVE the way you rearrange especially using recycled TP rolls and all the other material you use- Brilliant- The answer is YES it is important not only to the creative person but to everyone that gets to look at their art. Art is important- separates us humans from paramecium... it is probably the most positive aspect of being human actually. "Taking it seriously" diminishes it's intent.

Hey! It's BRONWYN up there ! YAHOO!

It's hard for me to talk philosophy in English... All I can say is living is doing, making, creating... The reason doesn't matter. Enjoy your own personal ride.

It's hard for me to talk philosophically and I Am English! But I believe being creative is part of living. Absolutely everything around was made by someone. It was someone's good idea! Our creativity satisfies something within ourselves and it satisfies those who view our creativity and may be the spark that ignites theirs!

I think with the gift of being able to create comes an obligation of consideration - we live in a world of finite space and resources, so I think whatever we create should be created with passion and purpose.
