Speaking in Riddles

There was a debate around the supper table last night. I have to say that I dislike debates. They always seem to me to be about defending one's own viewpoint, or picking holes in those of one's 'opponents'. No openness to the possibility of changing one's view. Hmmmm. I really prefer dialogue, I think.

I made this page about a month ago, apropos of nothing, really. (Drawing, magazine cutout, page from 50's Pitman shorthand exercise book.)

I completely agree! Completely. Conversation, dialogue, great! Rigidly arguing a point... no matter what. What's the point?!

OMG! I super agree with you and I was talking about that yesterday :) Love a good smart conversation, but definitely arguing it's not on my character.

Rarely can i converse with one man in this house- usually has an axe to grind- will even argue with himself especially if no one participates- I find it amusing now , didn't always...After this 'training' I tolerate vociferous close minded know it alls much better, take it with a grain of assault...ass being the operative...

I do love the page you have done! What is to become of all of your pages? Are you going to publish them- I would like that very much! My own anairam by the bedside and on the coffee table, in the library and by the loo...where our best reading gets done...

Your page is a very fine design!

I avoid loud conflict even when I think I am very right. Wimp,maybe--no--no argument I'm a wimp. But I do like conversation.

LOL about Linda Sue's comment. Getting visions of you standing by her bed or her loo with that great book in hand waiting for the next reader. Sorry, overimaginative is another of my faults.

The graphic here is very telling and shows how I feel many times about this very subject. A big red ?

I am all about dialogue - and leaving options open and appreciating different points of view! Lots of gray - no need to be black and white!
