This is what my desk looks like:
Scary, hey? That little space in the middle towards the front is where I work. So that is what prompted my new acquisition. A school desk!
I must state that I am not one of those people who think back longingly to their school days, nostalgic tears trickling down their cheeks. Although I did very well academically - usually top of the class - I hated school. Let's face it, I was considered a nerd. Never popular. Always on the outside looking in. So the immediate affection - even love - I felt when my eyes first fell on this desk was rather weird, if not suspect. But consider this - a lid that lifts to reveal a lovely space for storing notes, pens, books and so on; a little groove for my pen and pencil; a seat that lifts, the perfect back rest, the solidness of it. I mostly use it for working on my laptop. The strange thing is that I did not go out and look for something that would solve my untidy-desk-with-5x5-inch-space-for-working problem. No, I just walked past a junk shop and saw this lovingly restored desk, and then only did I realise that I needed to solve the untidy-desk-with-5x5-inch-space-for-working problem. I didn't even realise I had a problem until I saw my school desk. So I do not really know how to classify this one ...
Have a great weekend, every one. School's out!!!!!

Your desk is only messy because there is so much going on on it! I see needle felting, journalling, reading and those things need room! I have similar solutions to you-I have a desk from an art school with a storage space-full of what who knows? And I mainly use the kitchen table for my laptop and creative work at the moment-that is covered too! I like your desk though-it looks plainly inviting, and I like the lamp next to it too.
I was clever at school too - it doesn't make you popular when you don't let others copy your homework!! My worktables end up like your desk, with so much on them I am working in a tiny space! As for your felt balls - have you tried wet felting them - wet your hands with hot soapy water, then keep rolling the wool round and round until the fibres mesh together .... you can then needlefelt embellishments on them.
I feel very at home in a space like that! Sometimes I am amazed at what has landed on my desk. I don't seem to notice it, until all of a sudden it's full of everything!
Love your new aquisition! I am sure it will soon be full too! We always expand to fill just a little more space than we have.
I love that your working desk looks like mine...Neatness makes me nervous. Your little school desk is so cool - always loved my school desk where I hid treasure and sweets from the teacher, though there were weekly inspections. I loved school until I turned sassy...I am felting today and my fingers feel like pin cushions! Hope you figure out how to make balls- I might just have to hop on down to show you, have a good cup of coffee and hop on back!
Oooh, I remember those old school desks... what a GREAT acquisition. I'm afraid I'd scare Linda Sue 'cause I'm one of those who has to clear my desk before I can work properly on something, even if it's just to shovel the mess into a drawer or pile it 'neatly' onto the floor nearby. It's the illusion of neat that's more important than the reality to me. A desk with a flip up lid would be perfect for achieving this.
