I have been looking for a hat for a long time. Black (what else?) in a fabric such as linen or cotton canvas, with a short but not floppy brim, and big enough to pull over my ears with my eyes just peeking out. In fact, I was looking for something old-fashioned, kind of 1920's or 1930's style. Of course I did not find such a hat. So I made one this weekend.
I am particularly proud of it as I made it without a pattern - I cut out a crown using a bread plate (side plate) and then measured the side and brim a little bigger than I thought, then tacked it together to see that it (kind of ) worked, then cut the pieces a bit smaller, and then hand-sewed the whole lot together.
I also made a flower from the same material to pin on. Not sure that I will wear it like that though - it looks a bit too formal. I am thinking of sewing different bands that I can decorate in different ways and slipping that over when I need some variety - what do you think?

That's really good! I thought you had bought it. What fabric did you use? I like the flower-that makes it look quite 20s I think. It would be fun to play around with different bands too!
Very nice. I'd suggest you make a bunch because they would probably sell very well. But then there would be all those others out there with a super cool hat like yours...totally taking away the coolness effect.
Get L'Husband to take a photo of you modeling it with and without the flower so we can vote.
Are these 2 different hats? They are wonderful. The bottom picture looks a bit like a top hat. I would wear any of your creations in a wink. Love the flower.
I think you're a creative genius! And I don't say that lightly. Brilliant.
once again, you blow me away! this is gorgeous! leave the flower!!
WOW - I'm impressed, yes definitely leave the flower, it makes it nice & quirky
Great Hat! It looks terrific, and I'd love to see some photos on a model!
I also made some hats, just like yours, but out of fleece. I haven't taken any pictures yet, because I think I still want to fine tune them/make them of different colors.
I also made a rose/flower to add if wanted.
Then I made some hats with a more fitted crown (6 pieces sort of shaped like triangles, but rounder on the sides) and added a different color rim. I like those better. I'll photograph them soon!
It's gorgeous!
Anairam, I LOVE it... how wonderful that you were able to realize the vision you had in your head. You have totally inspired me! And please make more hats!!
So stylish and innovative!!! Well done.
