Word Creatures

I have finally figured out what to do with my cupboard full of tp inners. Inspired by William Kentridge's Nose and the wonderful, whimsical art of Andre da Loba I have created this little critter. He loves words and reading and dictionaries and books of all sorts.

I am thinking of illustrating an entire novel with Word Creatures. I am kind of thinking Charles Dickens - Bleak House perhaps (which I am currently re-watching); his novels are peopled by such wonderful characters, don't you think? Any other novels/plays/movies that spring to mind?

Little TP Man. LOL! I like the photo of him reading with his big lashy eyes. It looks like he can boogy down to music too. Shake it, TP Man.

I saw him today when I was at lunch and I fell in love with him, so have come back to ogle a little more! He is great-so debonair and erudite. I think he would do a good job on illustrating some kind of historical non-fiction texts-there is something a little military about him!
Have you heard of Alan Fletcher (designer, not Australian soap star!) He made his grandson a set of creatures from various packets lying around. I will send you photos at some point!

I love your little man - so much better than some of the exhibits that we saw in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney (a lot of which reminded of the constructions my son made with cereal packets and cardboard tubes when he went to Nursery, aged 4!!!)

This fellow is just too much! Love love love him... and I do like "Bleak House", the newest Made For High and Mighty TV version with Gillian Anderson. It made me want to gnaw on the book... ha!

Take care.

knew those tp holders would become something magical in your hands one day! He's very handsome and definitely leading man material :)

I agree about the Dickens characters and I think some of Jane Austen or Victor Hugo's work would be great for tp interpretation too...

Can't wait to see what you do next!
