New Acquisitions #17

I bought these a week ago at a local "lifestyle" market. A cushion cover ...

a ceramic pendant ...

and a ceramic ring ...

It was a pretty sad market - not many traders / craftspeople, and very few customers. For a while I was the only person wandering from table to table. So, although I like what I've bought, and am using all three items, under normal circumstances I probably wouldn't have purchased these. I bought out of pity. Do you sometimes buy something because you feel bad for the seller?

Yes. I tend to avoid going to places where I think this may happen though-if I go into a really quiet market or shop, especially if the seller looks at all sad, then I feel almost obliged to buy something. I do like your purchases though. The ring is lovely.

What unusual and unique purchases. I like how you choose the neutral grays, blacks and whites.

I am a sucker for sad-eyed kids selling awful food at bake sales to raise money for some cause.

I like these...I would buy them even without the pitty.

I buy stuff from children no matter what they are selling...just bought some ear rings for five bucks made out of (?). I love to see your new things because I know they will be something I would have bought...black and white...can't go wrong!

Ooooh - I love that cushion cover!! I know what you mean about buying things - we stopped at a craft shop on Friday on the way home - the lady had to open it up for us (it's attached to her home) .... I was looking round thinking, oh dear, I'm going to have to buy something, but fortunately Malcolm saw something he wanted!!

Good buys though. Love the pendant and the ring! I'm afraid I also succumb to this sometimes, the pity purchase. I once bought a felt flower pin under these circumstance and paid way more for it than I could really afford but it's become one of my favourite things and almost 8 years in, I'm still enjoying it, so it probably wasn't such a bad buy with hindsight. I hope you enjoy your goodies for a long time too. And I am sure you made those sellers day!

yes, i do! i've been a vendor in those sad, lonely markets and was always grateful for the lone buyer who would stop by and pick up a greeting card. i like what you found - especially that ring!

Ja. Veral ou tannies wat goed verkoop, of kinders. Ek het eenkeer die mees sad-looking kolwyntjies OOIT by 'n seuntjie gekoop net omdat ek die kind so bloody jammer gekry het. I'm a total sucker that way.
