Be kind ...

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle."
(Philo of Alexandria)

Dear friends, I apologize for being so slow in answering comments, and in visiting all your lovely blogs. I am unfortunately at the moment engaged in two rather horrible battles, and they have been sapping my energy and taking up my time. The one is with The Neighbour, and the other one, very unexpectedly, with A Colleague. Both have come about through inconsiderate and quite serious actions which can not be ignored by me, however much I wish it would all just go away.

I have to stand up for myself and as I do not have a confrontational personality, I am finding all of this very difficult. Two a.m. wake-ups are now standard issue - and I am soooooooo tired of folding origami cubes. If you have any ideas about either getting back to sleep or spending the early morning hours usefully, please let me know!

PS The answer to my Saturday movie post is of course ...

Oh No! From one non confronter to another-well done! Sometimes it just has to be done. I read if I wake up but I have to get up and go on the settee so as not to disturb Andy. I seem to have less trouble falling asleep on the settee but it does not always work and I don't like waking up there.
It's weird that, just as I can really like someone Ihave never met (you) I can also really dislike someone (your neighbour)
I wish he would move!

Sorry about all the stuff. Confrontation is not my thing either. I find it extremely stressful. Hopefully things will be smoothed out soon.

Oh Anairam, this makes my blood boil on your behalf - nasty neighbours and colleagues can make life horrid and I'd happily tackle them for you as I have no trouble with confrontation on behalf of others! It's just for myself that I struggle with it. Weird that, isn't it? I wish I could offer some real solution but alas, I have none. And I have not figured out how to conquer the insomnia thing myself either so can't even offer you assistance there. What a rubbish friend! Just know I am thinking of you and if I have any bright ideas, I'll be back... ♥ KL

PS I bet Linda Sue would have some GREAT advice... I do hope she gets back from Venice soon.

people - they can just be rotten sometimes! we have college students next door, and once in a while they throw horrendous parties, keep me up well into the night, and then our girls are up at the crack of dawn. so (giggle) since *I* have to be up, i make sure they're up, too. i take the girls outside and have them scream at the top of their lungs underneath the offenders' windows at 6:30 in the morning.

hugs - i hope you can get these issues resolved.

There are all sorts of recipes online for bombs...also you could be quite the nicey neighbor lady and give him a jar of home canned beans , the sort that have not been sealed properly- One taste of botulism is usually enough to put someone under...just a thought...It may take a while for the universe of karmic action to catch up with him but we know it will, in the meantime, if you do not fancy prison by actually poisoning him or blowing him up, alter your thoughts and laugh heartily. Warm milk is good at 2:00 am...Love dear one!

I hope you at least get to observe the karma come 'round. it must be difficult for a tender soul to have not one, but two battles. I wish you peace and sleep and resolution.

Oh no... Best of luck with your battles, I hope they're resolved (won!) soon.

When I wake up at 2am I try to do a bit of work - puts me to sleep in no time. And if it doesn't, then at least I've earned myself a lie-in the next day.

I've just discovered your blog through 'circles of rain' Inconsiderate neighbours are a pain - ours keepblocking the shared sewage system (and my husband has to sort it out!) As for getting back to sleep, I lie and think about a wonderful holiday we had in the Maldives - I imagine I am walking along the beach, listening to the sound of the waves and the breeze in the trees, until I am relaxed and fall asleep again. If it is noise that is keeping you awake, try having some soothing music to focus on, rahter than the disturbing noise. Sorry, didn#t mean to rabbit on for quite so long!

I'm sorry you are having to fight battles - battling is exhausting, stressful, and no fun to anyone except high powered litigators.

When I wake up and can't go to sleep, I make myself a hot water bottle. I find curling up with something warm helps me drift off. Also reading something very familiar, like Jane Austen or favorite poems.

Hope you are winning!

nasty people are unhappy people.

these people are miserable and suffer for their behavior just by being.

happy people are nice.

I just saw all your origami cubes. My family made a bunch one New Year's Eve and we slipped them over the bulbs of christmas light strands for little paper lanterns. There is an origami tulip shape that works well too. Sorry about your battles. I'm a non confronter too. Stand up for yourself, but don't let them get the best of you!
Good luck.

Love Linda's comment ! oh..i'm so sorry you have to go through this. I know what it's like not to be the confrontational type, as you say.
what's not funny is that of course, you can't avoid the nearby presence of your neighbor and neither your colleague i suppose.
Well, when i have insomnia, I take a book or start watching a movie.
I do hope you manage to solve these conflicts in the best way for you..
Sending you lots of sunshine from Spain..Chin up !
