Sit Stil

... which is Afrikaans for Sit still! Or: Stop fidgeting! How often did I have to hear those words when I was a child. And I'm pretty sure that in turn I said it to my kids on many occasions. But how can one reasonably expect a child to sit still? (I recently read this article in the NYT - oh, how I wish we had them when I was at school!)

Anyway, this weekend I embroidered these two words on the two cushions which I have on an old camping bed which dates from the Second World War.

Hmmm what a good idea- How about "SHUH"- "TUP"...or "GIITA"- "JOB"...or "Quit"- "Making me so angry I want to voodoo your ugly house"..Too much to embroider?

Oh Anairam how I love that campbed! And how stylish and inviting it looks with your embroidered cushions on it... I'd love to 'sit stil' on those. Exciting to see you finding all sorts of fabulous ways to use your new embroidery stitches! Such fun.

A certain young girlchild I used to know would have loved a desk with 20 litle drawers filled with lots and lots of paper and pencils and sweeties... I myself was irreparably scarred and traumatised when I was told by a teacher that I should stop behaving like a pop-up toaster.

Love the campbed, I have one just the same that I got from my parents house when they packed up and downsized...

I was quite prepared to sneak it out of the garage if I had to - there was quite a lot of interest from other family members!!!

Such simplicity of design, totally functional. We used it in the caravan tent for all the years when I was a kid.

Will it work for classes of fidgety 3 and 4 year olds?! There is plenty of time for sitting still later in life!
