... bare of chattering folk ...

Today I have been thinking of one of my favourite poems by Dorothy Parker ...

Sanctuary
My land is bare of chattering folk
The clouds are low along the ridges
And sweet's the air with curly smoke
From all my burning bridges

LOVE THIS POEM! Hit me right in the middle of burning a bridge today! Gave me the courage to continue burning- and it is sweet smoke. Thank you, very timely!

Little quite as satisfying as the calm in one's centre after a little bridge burning to rid oneself of chattering folk!

Dorothy sure could turn a phrase, couldn't she?! I would LOVE to have that mastery of language and the intellect and sharpness of wit to wield it with. Awe inspiring!

eilandkind - I love that poem and I adore Dorothy P!
linda sue - Oh, I am glad that Dorothy spoke to you so appropriately! I used to think that one should never burn one's bridges, but the older I get the more I believe that burning bridges is sometimes quite necessary, and can be a beneficial exercise.
kendalee - Oh, I love her poems - they cut right through and sometimes leave me a little breathless!
