Maar die liefde, die liefde is soeter as vye

Some journal pages...

This is from a poem by Breyten Breytenbach. It is Afrikaans for "But love, love is sweeter than figs".

It is almost spring. (I think.)
I had some Dada fun and wrote a poem. Well, not quite Dada, but anyway. In my obsession with recycling I took a leftover page (from the bad, trashy thriller which gave me the Paper Vase, the Words Hanger, the Hearts and Birds mobiles), cut out about 50 words, and then shuffled some of them around to make a poem. It is a serious, deep and dark poem. (And I wasn't even depressed when I made it ...)
This page has bits and pieces from a birthday I celebrated quite a few years ago.

Remember those lappies I bought (which Denise of Freshly Found identified as anti-macassars)? I based these pages on the lappies design.
After a walk on the beach I was inspired to do these.

And I jazzed this (previously posted) one up a bit more.

karina - I am so glad that you like it! I am having quite a lot of fun with it ...
my castle in spain - You know, it was so funny, because first I did the colour (by rubbing blue and red paint with a sponge) and then it came out this purply colour which reminded me of figs, and then I remembered the poem by Breytenbach so I added the words, and then I looked for a picture of figs. I went through ALL my magazines - not a single fig! (Lots of pomegranates though ...). Then I went through a box of pictures that I have been cutting out over the years, there are thousands, it literally took me HOURS, and I could only find this little one!!
eilandkind - Oh, I am so glad you like them. I do feel a teeny little bit of evolution taking place in my artistic endeavours ... although I sometimes want to weep when I see the stunning pages others create. How do they do those beautiful journal pages?! I don't know the techniques, so I basically colour in, paint, write a little, and paste in pictures. But I will persevere!

These are amazing! I think the seaweed inspired one is my favourite... I LOVE the design and the colours! It would be beautiful on fabric don't you think? And I love the way the eastern one is evolving... I like to go back to pages I've done before and work on them again too. Sometimes they take on a whole new direction, which is cool.

kendalee - I think it would work on fabric, but the colour is a bit too yukky-green for me! Somehow the watercolour pencil I used turned into a slimy green once I added the water. But hey, its seaweed, so maybe it's okay! (Yes, I find that I also like going back and adding to pages ...)
linda sue - Oh you are so sweet!! To mention my pages in the same breath as Bronwyn's beautiful journals is very motivating!

Le 'usband is mightily impressed (still!) - just as well La Blogeuse is sometimes allowed out of the kitchen?

Le Husband - Yes dear, now if you could only make the chain a little longer so I can reach my desk from the kitchen sink, that would really be perfect!
Mrs French - Oh thank you, that is so encouraging! (I love your photos, they inspire me always ...)
