Award Ceremony

Yay!! I have recently received the above two awards, one from Bronwyn of Smoke and Ochre and the other from Kenda Lee of Dance of A Painted Lady. I cannot remember when I last received an award - probably at university, which is yonks and yonks ago. So I am very chuffed! So chuffed that I have decided to hold my own award ceremony. The award will be passed on to my five favourite blogs:
1. Even Cleveland for always having the most interesting finds, and for glimpses into life in cleveland
2. Up and down town for her quirky drawings in an ongoing story about a girl, no longer a girl, living in a city - it is a magical blog, I love it!
3. A bucket full of Heather for life through the eyes of a girl, who is still a girl - I love it for its enthusiasm and she knits and crochets and makes all kinds of lovely stuff!

And yes, I know one is not supposed to give awards back to the people who gave them to you, but to be honest, these two blogs are the ones I make sure I look at every single day -
4. Dance of A Painted Lady especially for her exquisite writing & inspirational posts!
5. Smoke and Ochre for her stunning journal pages which I love, and also the images of her home.

And last, but not least, this special award to Le Husband, who doctored my laptop back to health!

Lacroix 2008

Having dug out my Lacroix - Diary of a Collection a while ago, I wondered what he was up to these days. Here are some of his 2008 Fall and Spring Collection designs.

Car boot sale Happiness!

Some of my recent acquisitions, either at car boot sales or charity shops:

A colander - or maybe for frying chips? I just think it is pretty - a big old happy sunflower!

I love these (I have five now) - they look stunning with spring blooms or just a single rose. And I have acquired instantaneous yachting and golfing kudos!

How can you not love them? My winter dolls are style icons!

These remind me of my mom - stainless steel little teapot (for my rooibos tea) and a gravy boat. Not that I ever make gravy.

A tiny silver vase.

These are old vintage teacups which are planted up with mini succulents. She was selling about 50 of these, I should have got more!

One of my favourites - a tiny wooden springbokkie. I only paid R2 for it!

Inspiration

I have many, many books on art and design, but only one on fashion. It is a lovely book to turn to for inspiration, as it is more about the process than the end product. Christian Lacroix - The Diary of A Collection contains many of the designer's scrapbook pages, illustrating the process he followed when designing this particular collection.

I like balloons!

In fact, I like them so much that I would quite like to sit on a chair made of balloons. Five hundred of them!

Trials and tribulations ...

My poor, poor little computer is sick. It gave a couple of sad coughs yesterday, then burped several BSOD's and although it bravely tried to reboot, fell into a coma ...
So, dear friends, it is now in hospital and I am awaiting the doctor's report.
In the meantime, expect fewer posts. (And only when and if I can nab Le Husband's laptop, like now, while he is watching some ridiculous game on TV where some rather unattractive looking males are chasing one another on a field. Oh, now I remember, it's called rugby.)
And to add to my tale of woe, we have been without water since 7am this morning ...

Oh where can it be ....?

This week we visited Stellenbosch, to photograph an artwork. We saw spring leaves on the oak trees ...

had coffee in a bookshop (and browsed around several others ...)

went to the bank to draw cash ...

spent some time in several lovely antique and junk shops ...

visited several art galleries ...

had lunch on one of the wine farms nearby ...
and somewhere, somewhere I placed my guerilla art work #2. (See here for the start of my project.)

Hugo França

I love these benches and chair by Hugo França - made from the raw hardwood of the Pequi tree.

Is that seaweed on the wall behind this bench? We have loads on our beach - maybe I'll sell them as art and make a packet ...

(Found via Wallpaper)
França used to work for a computer company - so I guess there is hope for us all!

&

& is just about my favourite character. It just seems so pretty & useful & clever. Look here to see how the symbol evolved from the Latin word 'et'.
Oh Joy recently posted a lovely cast iron & sculpture (from House Industries):
which reminded me of some other &s I've sourced before, like this pillow (via Design*Sponge)

& this aluminium & from Anthropologie (photo from here)
Don't you just love this bracelet from hello berlin ?

& I really like this plaster wall & too (available from kuber)

& what about this gocco card set from seaborgium?

How cute is this vintage typewriter key charm by keysandmemories? I would wear it on a cerise velvet ribbon around my neck!

Oh, & a lovely bookend by crowswithbows ...

& this pillow available from cafepress!

& if like me you are an & junkie, there is always The Ampersand, a site devoted to the beauty of the &!
