A Cheap Thrill ...

I must confess that I don't understand why one would want to go out in a boat, throw some bloody bait in the water, and then be lowered in a cage to gawk at sharks baring their teeth at you. A couple of weeks ago a shark tour operator opened shop near where I live.

And that very week I was reading the wonderful Turtle Diary by Russell Hoban, and there I found the words that described exactly how I felt. The quote is actually much longer, but I chose the most relevant part to make a poster ...
Which I put up on their front window late last night, with Le Husband gamely agreeing to drive the getaway car. As we stopped, we spotted two security guards chatting across the road. I fingered the poster nervously, then raced out, stuck it on with blobs of Prestik, then raced back to the car. The security guards were now staring across the street in our direction. As we sped off, we laughed hysterically at our daring. Oh, the thrill of it! The excitement!! Then it occurred to me: maybe I am not so very different from the shark watchers ...

Me too!!! Shark chumming and cage diving - don't get it, don't agree with it - and we need more people like you to say that. You go activist girl!! and getaway driver! Excellent stuff.

stephanie, bronwyn & kendalee - Oh my goodness, I am so glad you agree! I must say, it would have been great to have you all there - I needed a photographer to record the dastardly deed!! This guerilla thing is quite fun, I wonder what I can plan next?!
