The Red Balloon

Yesterday I tied a message to my balloon, bestowing peace & goodwill & happiness on the world.

And then released it. There was no Great Revolt of the Balloons, as in Albert Lamorisse's film. I felt a little sad to let my balloon go.

It meandered along a bit. I think it was afraid to go ...
and then suddenly, it made up its mind ...

and climbed higher into the big blue sky ...

and higher still ... until I had to squint to see it ...

I felt proud of my red balloon, flying off so bravely into the great unknown ...

(Thank you stephanie, for this post, which put an idea into my head ...)

i hope someone finds your balloon and gets to share in the joy of an unexpected thing.

I hope so too! (Maybe it will be a little like that movie The Darwin Awards where he ties his cellphone to a foil balloon to try & get a signal, and then the balloon flies away, and a little girl on the banks of the Ganges in India catches the balloon and finds the cellphone. Except mine won't have a cellphone ... but it will have Good Wishes, which is better, I think)

jessie - I hope you find it! In fact I hope my balloon collects all the other stray balloons and when you open your door one morning, maybe in two months' time, there they will all be, hovering around your front yard ...
